Right behind tweed, cord and flannel among fall classics is The Cable Knit Sweater. The Cable Knit stitch was initially introduced in Ireland in the early 20th Century as a way to make a sweater, then worn primarily by fishermen, thicker and warmer. The stitch soon migrated to sportswear on cricket, tennis and golf sweaters becoming an Ivy League wardrobe staple by The Sixties. The classic gets a refresh here in a slew of novelty colors and a soft lambswool yarn. The cable stitching appears on both the front and the back of the sweater.
