Part of our collaboration with the acclaimed decoupage artist, this is based on a vintage marigold print from John Derian’s extensive archive. The flower appears both on the front chest as well as on the back of the crewneck sweatshirt. The sweatshirt is a solid yet soft 16oz Fleece from a family-owned factory in Canada that uses vintage flat-lock machines to fabricate their old-school sweatshirts.
Todd’s interest in a creative partnership with Derian began back when he would browse Derian’s East Village shop during lunch hour over a decade ago. “For me, John is the originator of creating vintage heirlooms, and I loved how his store was a treasure trove of beautiful things,” says Todd, who found himself collecting paperweights, plates and paintings. The fabrics were made in Italy based upon prints from John Derian’s extensive archive on Orchard Street in Lower Manhattan. The two design teams went through a vast library of vintage prints, plates and other historical ephemera, then Snyder’s design team adapted them into patterns that would work on apparel before sending them to one of Italy’s leading mills to transform the designs into resort wear.
“There’s a sense of fun and whimsy in what John does,” notes Todd. “And so that lent itself to starting our partnership with cabana sets and more casual wear.”
Please note: these hoodies are really wearable work-of-arts and as such were produced in very limited quantities.
