The origins of the Car Coat are in its name: it was originally long, designed to keep motorists warm in early automobiles that were open to the elements. Over time, the term became synonymous with a shorter coat, one designed to hit at mid-thigh. In short, all the style of a topcoat in a casual, easy-to-wear silhouette. Ours is in a wool blend from Sondrio, in Italy, with a soft, drapey handfeel and a light Donegal fleck.
