The term “pub jacket” was first coined by Murray Pearlstein, founder of iconic menswear store LOUIS Boston, to describe this cardigan-meets-chore-coat. Knit from a blend of cotton, merino and baby alpaca (not from young alpacas, but rather the softest and finest fibers), it has an airy gently fuzzy look and feel. The yarn is also space-dyed, which involves taking a single yarn and dyeing sections of it in different hues, rather than simply twisting together two solid colors — the effect creates a subtle, variegated look. With an easy fit, two hand pockets and ribbing at the cuffs and waist, it’s an endlessly versatile layer that’s easy to dress up or down as the occasion calls for.
