The classic toggle coat (also called a duffle) is a menswear staple that will never go out of style…especially not one that looks this good. The handsome, heavyweight brushed Italian twill fabric sets off the iconic rope-and-horn toggles: think sartorial Paddington Bear. Those toggles, by the way, have a practical purpose — the coat traces its origins to the 19th century, when sailors in the British Navy, bundled up on deck in gloves, needed something easier to open than buttons. Meant to hit below the knee, it has a slightly oversized fit, but we’ve reinforced it at the waist to make sure it keeps its shape. Details include two oversized patch pockets, tabs at the cuff, and a large hood with buttons at the throat.

AMAZING. Size down?

READ THE MEASUREMENTS ON THE SIZE CHART FOR THIS ITEM. I know it's supposed to be "oversize," but the sleeves would cover most of my hands in a medium. I'm 5' 11", 190, and the SMALL fits me great. I am 39 years old and not skinny. My chest is 40 or 41. I have shorter than average arms for my height - even these sleeves are a touch long for me (but not quite "wrong"). This Small size fits me nearly perfectly. Plenty of room in the chest and belly. The sleeves and shoulders are more fitted but not tight; not inhibiting. High armholes but again not "wrong". NOTE, the horn toggles on my coat are charcoal/black (photo attached), not cream like in the product photos. There are no interior pockets; no chest pocket. The two big patch pockets are all you get. The zipper is good. The fabric is lovely. I suspect this will be plenty warm when it gets very cold; and I'll even be able to fit a mid layer underneath if I need to. Note, I don't wear suit jackets or sport coats with big winter coats (maybe this would be too snug with a suit jacket). The color of the wool is like in the product photos; it is a warm neutral color that could go with anything; and it's light enough of a brown I think it'd go with black just fine. This coat hits me below the knee. I have broad but sloping shoulders, and the coat really looks like it fits my body well when I look in the mirror. Outstanding!

This is a substantial (some heft in weight), good looking and well put together coat. Had the pleasure of initially wearing it on a cold day here Omaha with just a cashmere turtleneck underneath and was more than comfortable. Followed a previous buyers advice and ordered a size down and the fit is perfect. Was not looking to wear jackets underneath so the coat meets my expectations of wearing just sweaters underneath and feel comfortable. The horn buttons were a dark brown and not the light colored ones on line but I like the dark buttons much better. Would have liked an inside pocket and if I truly want one I can have my tailor place one behind one of the patch pockets. No biggie. Looking forward to the upcoming cold weather forecast. All in all more than pleased with my purchase as I have been with all my previous purchases from Todd Snyder.

Could've been longer

The coat was fantastic, but unlike it said in the description, it did NOT hit below my knees.

I'm 6'2" and bulky, so that may have had something to do with it. Still, it's a great coat and I'll make it work. (The coat may actually inspire me to drop a few pounds.)

Warm, stylish comfort

This jacket is very well-made and looks absolutely fantastic. I get compliments on it almost everytime I wear it and it will catch people's eyes. It does run a little big as it is an oversized fit, but I ran down a size and it fits perfectly, for me. I normally wear SML, but I made a gamble on XS and it worked! It's very warm and keeps me comfy in the brisk -7° cold. Some of the sleeve linings are a little scratchy, but I would still 100% recommend this.
