Italian Wool Cashmere Peacoat in Navy

If you wanted a more traditional pea coat, you’d have to board a time machine and enlist in the US Navy circa World War I. Back then, the peacoat wasn’t just a ruggedly cool piece of outerwear, it was cutting edge technology. Wool kept the wearer warm even when wet. Navy blue hid the ravages of salt water, grime and sun, and the large lapels popped up and could be closed with a throat latch to seal the wearer in from the elements. The length, hitting just at the top of the thighs, allowed for ease of movement when sailors had to climb the rigging. Even the double-breasted design meant that the buttons were located off to the sides, ensuring that ropes didn’t get snarled in them.Todd has kept all the old-school peacoat elements and then given our peacoat a luxe upgrade by adding some cashmere to the Italian fabric for a soft, sophisticated hand feel. The silhouette is double-breasted and features two flap pockets at the wearer’s waist and then two slanted, hand-warmer pockets closer to the chest. There are eight horn buttons on the front, a Bemberg lining with piped seams on the interior, and tabs at the sleeves that allow the wearer to adjust the aperture of the cuffs.

Fabulous peacoat

I purchased this coat to replace my 15 year old ralph lauren that was beginning to show its age. I absolutely love this coat. The finish, fit, and details are great. It is a warmer coat and slightly softer than my RL one, but still very comfortable. The hand warmer pockets are a bit different bit well done. I am 6'5" and ordered an XL(based of size measurements) as typical for me and fit is good, I definitely wouldn't size down. I ordered a Navy and was worried about it being too blue, but most of the time it's hard to tell it's navy and not black. Outstanding coat.

The perfect winter coat that isn't yet another down parka

Warm yes - but also stylish. I usually wear a large, but went down to a medium per the recommendations I saw on line. Glad I did - it fits perfectly with enough room for a suit jacket underneath. Easy to move in, even bicycling to work is a snap - and yet it looks elegant enough for work meetings. The wool is sturdy but soft - a nice blend - and the cut gives even middle-aged men like me a distinctive 'v-shape' look. The perfect winter coat.
