“Kalamkari” refers to a South Indian block printing technique that was originally used to illustrate textiles depicting the stories of sacred Indian texts, like the Mahabharata, Ramayana and Bhagavatam. Highly skilled artisans in India use hand-carved wooden blocks to manually stamp patterns in natural dyes, building a design layer by layer.
