Designed for the world’s most intrepid adventurers, the Oyster Perpetual Explorer was wear-tested on polar, mountaineering and caving expeditions over the years. This particular model has a clean, glossy black dial with the unmistakable and iconic Explorer configuration. As can be seen on the dial, it obtained COSC (official chronometer) certification. The watch comes on a very tight, stainless steel Oyster bracelet, with the improved flip lock deployant that was found on the Submariner models (a more recent upgrade). Made circa 2003/2004, it’s in superb original condition— and, with a refined look and elegant low profile, it’s by far the most versatile style in the Rolex stable of sport watches. The watch is powered by a Rolex, Swiss-made, thirty-one jewel automatic movement. The movement has a Chronergy escapement, as well as optimized and improved gears and lubricants, which allow for a better power reserve. It comes with the engraved rehaut, added to all Rolex models starting with the Turnograph in about 2004 that was intended to make them harder to counterfeit (and to make it easier to read the serial number). As Ian Flemming (an Explorer owner himself) wrote: "A gentleman’s choice of timepiece says as much about him as does his Saville Row suit.”
Because this watch is a vintage, one-of-a-kind piece, all purchases are final sale and excluded from any promotions.
