Stripe Tank Top in Navy

2 items left

Using a stripe as a base layer is an easy way to add carbonation to any look. This  tank in a premium Jersey cotton is versatile enough to be worn alone or layered under a Camp Collar Shirt. The all-cotton fabric comes from Portugal, and the pattern is what’s known in the trade as a “feeder stripe,” meaning a narrow, subtle stripe.

The Tank Top does not get its name from a military vehicle but from a style of sleeveless bathing costume that caused a stir when it was worn by the British Women’s Swim Team at the 1912 Olympics. Back then swimming  pools were also called swimming tanks, and the name “tank top” stuck. Over the next century, it became a smoldering, blue collar undergarment on the back of Marlon Brando inOn The Waterfront andA Streetcar Named Desire and something else on Bill Murray inCaddyshack. In the Nineties, the tank became a warm-weather style staple after rockers, rappers and well-toned men popularized it.
