This classic Penny Loafer is made in Italy at a factory that’s been making shoes since the 1930s. It’s crafted from Italian calf suede, and lined in soft leather for an easier break-in period. The rubber sole provides good traction, and more versatility during inclement weather; a stacked wood heel and topstitching throughout adds timeless style. The origin of the Penny Loafer can be traced back to 1934, when G.H. Bass designed the Weejun: a loafer with a strip of leather stitched across the saddle of the shoe, featuring a shaped cutout. These would become the shoe of choice for young men and students in the 1950s; they would keep a dime in the cut-out, which eventually gave the shoes their colloquial name, “Penny Loafer.”
Meet the building blocks of a modern wardrobe. These are Todd’s elevated versions of go-tos, designed to help you put your own spin on the Great American Stylebook.
