Behind the Seams: Silsa

The Portuguese makers behind our exceptional tees and polos.

Designed in New York

Todd’s mission has always been to make the best possible versions of the core pieces in a gentleman’s wardrobe…and what’s more of a staple than the T-shirt?

However, the simpler something seems on the surface, the more important it is to get the details just right — the perfect fabric, with enough weight to have structure but light enough to layer, clean seams, soft but sturdy, flattering fits. That’s why Todd turned to the experts at SILSA when it came time to design his.

Crafted in Portugal

Founded in 1974 along Portugal’s northern coast, SILSA has been perfecting cotton fabrics for over half a century. The family-owned business maintains a rigorous commitment to textile quality, craftsmanship, and sustainability, and is committed to circularity and renewable resources.

Portugal has a strong textile tradition that continues to evolve every year, combining centuries of experience and know-how with new finishes, technologies, and more sustainable processes. What distinguishes Silsa is its team of experienced and innovative craftspeople, and its attention to detail — not only to how a garment looks on the outside, but also to the consistency of the stitching, the finishing, and more.

5 different patterns of tweed are shown on jacket collars.

THE WORLDS BEST JERSEY

Our tees are made from cotton jersey with a smooth, dense, breathable feel; piece-dyed for even color; and garment-washed for softness. The reason we know it’s the best is because SILSA controls the entire product chain, from knitting the fabric to dyeing it, cutting it, sewing it, printing, embroidery — everything.

“Making clothes is like a relationship; it requires attention, patience, flexibility. When we work with someone who shares the same values, it’s always easier,” says SILSA Director Jorge Dias. “And I believe that Todd does: he prioritizes people, pays attention to detail, and keeps a high standard of quality. What gives us the greatest satisfaction is seeing the final result come out exactly as it was originally envisioned. For us, this is always the best reflection of success.”
