Behind the Seams: Becri

The Portuguese makers behind our bestselling sweatshirts, sweatpants, and more.

Swatches of textiles are shown, along with sketches of designs, showing the artistic process.

Designed in New York

Known for his elevated approach to everyday styles, Todd designs sweats that you can wear anywhere: comfortable, durable, and refined.

What distinguishes your average sweatshirt from our bestselling Pocket Sweatshirt is the craftsmanship that goes into it, from the very first stages of the design to the final piece you pull over your head — and Becri’s partnership in that process is invaluable.

Crafted in Portugal

Based in Portugal, just north of Porto, in Barcelos, Becri was founded in 1983 by António José Costa. A tailor (and volunteer firefighter), António’s passion for exceptional textiles drove him to begin creating his own. Since then, Becri has evolved from a small, family-owned business into an internationally renowned source for luxury fabrics.

Today, the company continues its legacy of excellence, drawing on its unique background to deliver top-tier garments. Its entire supply and production chain is in-house, from developing the fabric to dyeing, cutting, sewing, and washing. Becri is committed to sustainability, too, from exploring the use of natural dyes to recirculating old stock, minimizing chemical use, incorporating solar energy, conserving water, producing less waste, and more.

5 different patterns of tweed are shown on jacket collars.

Sweats to be Seen in

Becri is behind our bestselling Soho and Foundation Sweats, both of which are made from a loopback French cotton terry. The “loopback” interior is moisture-wicking; the smooth exterior has a clean, elegant look.

Each was custom-developed for the perfect weight — a heavier 435 grams per square meter (GSM) for the more modern, structured Soho Sweats, and a midweight 380 GSM for our go-to Foundation Sweats.
