Taking as his inspiration the clean court shoe with the irreverent blue smile on its toe, Todd has created a collection that took the sartorial codes of racquet sports then reinvented them for today’s modern mavericks who have their own unique personal style, both on-and-off the court.
The sneaker was originally developed in the 1930s for its namesake Jack Purcell, the Canadian badminton player, who was a natural at hyping his sport and his eponymous kicks. Since then, the original court shoe became a go-to for everyone from tennis champions to creatives who redefined their crafts including James Dean, Ray Eames and Kurt Cobain.
Todd’s new, navy take gives the iconic Jack Purcell a modern refresh--the upper is made from organic cotton, the sole from recycled rubber. The laces and the sole have flashes of pink, a nod to the pink oxford that was a staple of Ivy League style in The Sixties. Additional design details include a cork liner, an embroidered logo and a suede tongue. Under the hood the sneaker has been designed to be more comfortable than what you might remember of the classic iteration. The navy colorway pairs effortlessly with the rest of the collection. I think beat up Converse shoes look way better than brand new ones so I wasted no time getting mine beat up and dirty. So far so good!
(These fit true to size compared to classic chucks that I usually go a full size down for.)
Runs a half size big but a great shoe. Comfy and stylish
Great look. Very comfortable compared to standard Chuck Taylors. No Ventilation at all. Heard the phrase about two rats? Leather on the inside holds heat in. Can wear them about 2-3 hours before they start to bark. Will still fight through the sticky foot for the great look though!
