For the latest style in his long-running collaboration with New Balance, Todd Snyder is introducing a special collector’s edition of the legendary 997 running shoe. The Triborough 997 taps into nostalgia for what was a state-of the art sneaker when it debuted in the Nineties while reimagining it as a sleek piece of footwear for the modern gentleman.
Designed by Steven Smith, the original 997 debuted in 1990 and turned heads with lines that were reminiscent cent of a vintage roadster—albeit a roadster whose lines would stand the test of time like an Alfa-Romeo Giulietta. Part of that aura stemmed from the fact that the 997 “retired” in the mid-Nineties and was not seen again for two decades. Even more rare was the “Flying NB” logo that appeared on early 997 models, disappeared and now makes its triumphant return with this limited drop of the Triborough 997.
