As a longtime aficionado of vintage Champion, Mark McNairy seemed the perfect guest designer for Todd’s latest Champion capsule. “In the Nineties, I was traveling to Japan a lot, and my first stop was always this Champion store in Tokyo,” remembers McNairy. “They sold vintage styles that would make me lose my mind, and I started collecting them.”
A case in point is the style that inspired the varsity jacket silhouette with a Chenille daisy patch. The Italian fabric comes from the legendary Tollegno Mill. The pattern of repeating daisies is both McNairy’s nod to flower power, and the way that he perceives hippies to be the beginning of street style. It is also a nod to his daughter, whose name is Daisy.
