Yuketen Handsewn Maine Guide Ox in Brown

1 item left

Yuketen's Maine Guide collection draws inspiration from the early wilderness guides of New England.  This is a classic 'American' guide boot born from some of the earliest settlers of America, and it is in tribute to the propulsive spirit of the boot's earliest owners that Yuketen has approached a new frontier in its design.

As one of Yuketen’s most challenging handsewn moccasins, the All Handsewn Maine Guide Ox is a testament to the incomparable capability of Yuketen’s handsewers. Each pair of the boots is handcrafted in our factory in Maine, USA. The boots benefit from their construction using only the best components and materials such as the Horween’s glovey/soft tempered heavyweight vegetable-tanned leather that is made to imitate soft deer hide. Generally, veg-tan leather is hard and stiff that takes a while to break-in. This leather, however, is tanned very soft, which feels just like deerskin leather. Veg-tan leather shows beautiful patina with age and that is one of the charms of the leather as well.

To closely mirror the incongruence of the human foot and deliver a molded fit, multiple pieces of leather are hand-sewn and hand-lasted on Yuketen’s proprietary last, which was developed in the 1950s and was known as the best shoe last for an American-made moccasin. In addition, the base of the vamp has been cinched to further ensure an integumentary fit.
