Born in Anaheim, CA Vans got its start making quality shoes in 1966. The Authentic is their original, heritage style: a classic lace-up shoe with throwback details. The eye-catching pattern includes images pulled from an 1872 print by Shirley Hibberd called “Sea Life.” It’s bound to make an excellent conversation starter at the pool, beach, or bar this summer — especially paired with the matching swim shorts. This piece is part of a limited-edition capsule collection created by Todd Snyder and artist John Derian. The seaside-themed summer styles are all based on rare 18th- and 19th-century prints from Derian’s archive. “When John and I got together to design our second collection, [he] was talking about his store in Provincetown, MA,” says Snyder. “This Derian-at-the beach direction really appealed to me, and so we started looking at antique prints of harbor scenes and marine life.”
