Portuguese Seersucker Camp Collar Long Sleeve Shirt in Navy

Our popular Camp Collar Shirt gets a warm-weather refresh in one of summer’s official fabrics namely seersucker. The lightweight cotton fabric was originally worn by the British in India, and its puckered nature kept it off the skin and thus cooler than clingy fabrics on hot days. The word “seersucker” came into the menswear canon from the Hindi language: Shir and shakar mean literally “milk” and “sugar,” as the alternating smooth and rough stripes of the fabric was reminiscent of the smooth texture of milk and the bumpy texture of sugar. Our seersucker is subtle, not overly ridge-y and comes to us from our friends at Somelos, the Portuguese textile manufacturer whose linen and cottons are prized for their softness. These shirts are a great way to dress up a pair of shorts for outdoor dining.
