As we move in to the new Todd Snyder flagship store on Madison Square Park, we thought we should introduce ourselves to some of our neighbors. We’ve all heard of Mad Men. Well, meet Madison Men: a collection of people who work in and around Madison Square Park in New York – and who are therefore our new neighbors.
To get relations off on the right foot, we invited each of these guys to pick an outfit from the new Todd Snyder flagship store. Then we chatted to them wearing said outfit in their natural environment. (Which in the case of one was the line for ShakeShack in the middle of the Square – hey, we’re not judging.) Over the next six weeks we’ll be introducing you to them, one by one. There’s Will Guidara and Daniel Humm who co-own Three Michelin-starred restaurant Eleven Madison Park and The NoMad and soon-to-open Made Nice restaurants; James O’Reilly co-founder of NeueHouse, a members’ club for creatives; Rameet Chawla, entrepreneur and founder of design agency Fueled; Zack and Harvey Moscot of Moscot eyewear who have opened a shop-in-shop within the Todd Snyder store; and Ben Pundole VP of Brand Experience for EDITION Hotels photographed inside our very close neighbor the New York EDITION.
Ben Pundole, 42, is Vice President Brand Experience EDITION Hotels and founder of AHotelLife.com
What do you do day to day? It changes daily, thankfully, but everything from planning Art Basel events to organizing wellness retreats and charity events, to overseeing our social media strategy and sourcing talent. Also cocktail tasting!
How long have you been working in and around Madison Square Park? We opened the New York EDITION in May 2015, so just a couple of months before then.
What’s the best cocktail and best dish on the menu at The Edition? Cocktail: The Mexican Bull. Dish: anything vegan.
Favorite room at The Edition and why? 3110, the Penthouse, because I watched my friends’ documentary ‘Black and White Stripes: The Story of Juventus’ with the narrator, the legendary F. Murray Abraham! It was just the four of us and a tasty bottle of Nebiolo.
What is the most memorable thing your concierge has ever been asked to organize by a guest? A rave. No, a wedding. Wait, can I get back to you?
What do you typically wear to work? Trousers, never jeans, always rolled; high tops, rarely socks; button-down shirt. My style is midtown gent, never too far from a dance party.
What kind of bag do you take to work? A black canvas backpack.
What kind of wallet do you carry? A very very old one which is falling apart.
Turn out your pockets and empty your work bag. List the precise contents. Oh jeez, this is happening. Pockets: Keys, wallet, iPhone. Bag: Macbook, bottle of Gem and Bolt Mezcal (unopened in case you’re wondering), two Genmai Cha organic toasted brown rice tea bags, pen, book - The Book on the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are by Alan Watts, charger.
What would you say are the particular tools of your particular trade? Patience, gratitude, curiosity and excitement.
You’re a Madison Square Park man – what are your local haunts? Juice Press (for Simple Greens and Raw Oatmeal), Cosme (an absurdly delicious Mexican restaurant) and our pals at the Nomad for great cocktails
Tell us about another Madison Man you encounter regularly. My favorite Madison Man is my friend and colleague Frank Roberts. He’s the best dressed man on the park and the Director of Culture and Entertainment at the EDITION.
What notable person do you recall seeing in the park? Bill Murray
What three accessories available on ToddSnyder.com best sum you up? The Ranger backback in black. Fredericks and Mae black arrows. Daneson Every blend toothpicks (out of stock??)
